Christian Camp Centers – Three Steps To Selecting The Right Location

If you are new to planning and creating retreats, the following three steps should help you.  These steps will move you through a deliberate process, and they can prevent you from making short-sighted decisions and help you to get out of the box and think creatively.

Sometimes traditions are helpful for the right reasons.  Other times, they are not.  Many churches and other community organizations have been known to go to the same camp center year after year after year simply because “that’s the way we’ve always done it.”  Again, sometimes this is a good decision if the camp center serves you in unique ways or offers scheduling preference or discounts because of your loyal patronage.  Other times, going to the same place again and again is the choice simply because it is easy and doesn’t require much effort.  This is when tradition can get in the way of providing the most enriching and memorable experience possible.

1. Be creative, involve others, and develop a fresh experience.

Before you make any contact with possible camp centers, do a little more work up front that will save you a lot of effort later and make your retreat unique.

Find out what needs, interests, or challenges your group members are facing right now.  Do your planning with a creative team, and not alone.  Bring in new members to your retreat planning team every year, and then have a live, in person, brainstorming session where every idea is allowed and considered and you benefit from the excitement and synergy that only team work can bring.

This is far better than trying to resurrect an old theme from years ago just because you have pre-made notes or ideas, or picking a currently popular book and arbitrarily assigning a few people to speak from a chapter.  Your participants always pick up on the genuine enthusiasm and involvement of leaders.  What has been impactful or has spoken to the lives of your team members?  What gets you excited or has you passionately interested lately?  Usually what has been speaking to the lives of your own team members will also speak to others.

2. Be very clear on your time requirements, your schedule, your accommodation and equipment needs, and your budget.

Knowing exactly what you want to occur, and when, during your retreat really helps you select the best camp center for you, and it also helps the staff of the camp center get ready to serve you.  Being clear on how many will attend, special dietary or sleeping arrangements, the specific types of media equipment you will need, and when your presentation sessions will take place are very important.  There’s a good chance the camp center will be hosting more than one group, so knowing exactly when you will need meeting rooms, recreation facilities, times of quiet and meals makes everything flow nicely.

If you are clear with your needs, the camp center staff can also be clear on total costs, which will help you set your budget.  Make sure you have final arrangements communicated in writing, and try to negotiate and plan with the same camp center staff member.  This minimizes the chances of miscommunication or last minute changes.

3. Having prepared well allows you to now select the best camp center.

Now that you have put good effort into creating your event, and you are very clear on all that you require, looking at various camp center options will be easier and more effective.  Camps will now be able to let you know when and how they can accommodate you, and before you even contact a camp center, you can now narrow your options by first visiting camp center websites.  Since you know what you need and when you need it, making your selection should go much more smoothly.

Hope for the Holidays and Every Day

Peace on earth and goodwill towards men was the message of the angels and it remains the message of the gospel to this day. The hope of Christmas is that God’s heart is already turned towards us – all that is necessary to receive His peace and goodwill is for us to turn our hearts towards Him.

Claim Your Healing In Jesus’ Name – Part 1

Health is described as physical and mental well-being and it is freedom from disease and sickness. Medical science aids healing through the administration and prescription of medicines for the physical body. Claim Your Healing In Jesus’ Name – Part 3

As I have discussed in parts 1 and 2, it takes discipline and commitment to operate in the principles of God’s Word for your healing. Be encouraged to confess God’s healing Word, loudly, on your body two of three times a day. Confess it with authority and the confidence of God. He has already declared that His Word will not return to Him void, but will accomplish what it has been sent to do.

i really need help here. i don’t know where to start to be a Christian singer/guitarist/songwriter/speaker. it sounds really fun, but where do i start? please don’t leave rude comments, and don’t cuss, and don’t bother leaving a comment if you’re not Christian.

I hear so many confusing statements! Yes I have tried reading the Bible for myself. A devout Christian friend of mine says her church teaches the Rapture, women should not wear pants, makeup etc., and other things too. Then I hear another reputable speaker teach the opposite! I am just so confused and I have prayed for clarity but I need help/advice. Anyone have any serious advice?

George can’t do speech’s very well…what a strange choice of things for him to do. I almost feel sorry for him…from president to two bit motivational speaker.
No joke, it is true.

Should I tell my family I’m not a Christian?

I recently turned 15 and have been going through a few things with my family. The most affecting thing being my mom was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months ago. Well, she had what was the most dire surgery about 6 weeks ago. She’s going into another one that’s minor in November and is expected to recover soon after that. Anyway, she’s an extremely devoted Christian along with my family. It comes up what seems like everyday, whether it’s just a ‘God is great’ type comment, it’s mentioned in some form. Though I wouldn’t classify my mom as this extreme, judgmental Christian as she’s accepting of things like people of different orientations, I know that she wouldn’t be happy or understand if I told her I’m not a Christian. My dad on the other hand isn’t someone I see regularly and when I do religion’s never discussed so that’s not an issue. My family on the other hand is pretty much the same as my mom. Even a couple of days ago my aunt took me to a Beth Moore sermon (she’s apparently seen as this empowering Christian speaker). I think the reason for this is I had talked to my cousin, her daughter, a few days before that and when religion was mentioned, I said that was ‘more of my mom’s thing’. So I guess that was her way of trying to get me more into Christianity. It’s not that I’m completely against Christianity, I just don’t want to be a part of it; I’m tired of having to agree with what they believe. But my mom’s been stressed lately and seeing her go through that has stressed me out too and I don’t want to disappoint her with this, worrying her even more. Then again, I’m not sure how many more sermons I can attend and act like I’m happy about it. Should I put up with Christianity for the time being or tell them?

Occasionally the providential care of God delicately requests my attention, and in doing so it rolls up the darkness of doubt that has a way of sneaking into my perspective. One such instance happened to me just lately. This past Friday afternoon, I was working at my desk stressing over the minutiae of ministry when I received a call. The man on the other end of the phone introduced himself as Robert Stinser*, and said he had been fit together with a Long Island Youth Mentoring mentor when he was eleven years-old. He said that he was older now, and wanted to give back in some way to this ministry. I asked Robert his age now and he said thirty-three.

Robert requested if he could speak at a dinner or some other event where he could relate what his mentor had meant in his life. I told him about the  auction on November 14th, and asked what he would like to say. This is what he said:

When I was initially matched, my Dad was in jail for abusing my sisters. My Mother was struggling to figure out her own perceived needs while trying to raise three children. Drugs and men came freely into and out of our apartment. Bob, my Youth Mentoring mentor was my only constant–the only person I could really rely on. It was Bob who taught me how to ride a bike, and later how to drive a car. When I was old enough to get out on my own, it was Bob who taught me how to plan for, and get my first place and how to take care of my finances and budget and take care of myself.  Most important, it was Bob who shared the beauty of the Gospel and who prayed a blessing over me and my beautiful Christian wife at our wedding. It was Bob who gave me advice on how to be a Dad–the type of Dad God wanted me to be.

I never thought I would own my own home, but now I own my own house and have my own business. My wife and I have two  children. In the last twenty-two years there has not been a period of time longer than two weeks when I did not communicate with Bob. Now my friends call me for parenting advice, and I tell them what Bob taught me.”

As he paused, I reflected on the fact that this man currently has a three year old and a six year old childliving in a safe healthy home. Eventually I said, Robert, your young ones are really what this ministry is all about. He asked me to explain. I told him that the sort of bad treatment that he and his sisters went through in childhood is usually passed on from generation to generation. The fact that his children have never experienced this trauma is testimony that God has put an end to it in his generation.

I could hear the emotion in his voice as he said this.  John, what you say is so real. So much negative has happened in my family and I have changed dramatically that I wanted to change my name. I did not want to have any part of my family name. Now I am happy I did not, but I understand what you are saying about multi-generational sin.

i think he does cd’s & dvds. n he talks about his strugle with god. ______ pickle?

any help?

I attended a Festival in Mt. Union, PA in 1985 called “Jesus ’85”. There was a speaker there with a brittish or Irish accent (I think), that gave a great testimony to the life of Mary. One thing he repeated a few times was if at this point if you asked Mary was it worth it she would of said “yes it was worth it”. There were also some comical comments he made. I think his first name was Eric, but I am not 100% sure on that. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Christian Prayer Unleashed: A Pathway To Confident Christian Prayer

Prayer is essential to a healthy Christian lifestyle.  Indeed, joyful survival is dependant upon daily Christian prayer.  That we may freely speak with our Father is our faith and our promise.  We commune with Jesus Christ.  We groan in the Spirit.  Sometimes when the hour is early and the stars still bright, we kneel in great need, our hearts trembling.  With earnest expectation, we cry out that God provide our needs, enlighten our understanding, shore up our defenses, and overcome Satan’s efforts to take advantage of our fleshly fears.  With assurance and confidence we pray for friends, family, and the lost and dying world around us, knowing that God in heaven will never reject the pleas of a humble and contrite heart.

But some may not fully understand this power that resides in prayer.  How many accumulate speak-words rather than a shared conversation with Jesus?  How many amass minutes rather that arrive at fellowship?  If your prayer life feels void and empty, consider the following scriptures.  They may help you unleash confident Christian prayer.

In The Garden: Prayer Unleashed and Prayer Restrained.

In the garden of Gethsemane, even as Jesus, through prayer, battled his greatest temptation, a small group of disciples lay near and slept.  “Keep alert and pray,” he said unto them, “Otherwise temptation will overpower you.  For through the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak” (Matt. 26:41).  Get the implications of this:

Temptation waits by the door.
Lack of spiritual awareness is deadly.
Sensitivity to the subtleties of spiritual battle quickens the flesh.
Prayer equips a Christian for future warfare.
Without prayer, temptation wins.
Prayer shores up a Christian’s spiritual strength.

The implication is that a right response to the Savior’s warning could have protected Peter from the yet to come trial of denial.

Earnest Prayer and the Active Church Body.

Much later, while this same Peter laid sleeping in prison between two soldiers, “…prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him,” (Acts 12:5).  In time, after punching this sleeping man in the side to awaken him, an angel of the Lord leads Peter into freedom.  Scripture says that Peter thought he was having a vision and that he wasn’t even fully awake until after he had exited from the prison.

Ponder this issue.  What is the difference between a sleep of confidence and a sleep of resolve?  Some would say that Peter was resting in confidence, but perhaps he had merely resolved to accept whatever may come.  I have been there before.  It is a form of surrender.  We decide that our circumstances reflect God’s will.  We cease to struggle, for struggle is difficult while acceptance is easy.  But confidence prays.  Confidence fasts. Confidence waits on God with awareness, still in flesh but powered in spirit.  Surrender lies down, thinks little of anything, and merely hopes that something works out.

Take care that your prayer life is not complacent.
Earnest prayer changes events.
Christian prayers can aid even the lazy.
Wake up, pray, and be expectant of deliverance from your adversity.

Fine Points of Prayer as Taught by Jesus.

The Psalms are filled with prayers.  The prophets spoke long with God, clearly defining their feelings and their needs and their frustrations.  Godly men have always known His voice.  But we will let the words of Jesus close this study.  Look into Matthew 6:5-15.

Prayer is personal, not show.
Prayer is exact, not babble.
Prayer is thoughtful, heartfelt, and sincere, not rash and explosive.
Prayer involves forgiveness, not condemnation.
Prayer praises God, even as we sometimes weep.
Prayer seeks fulfillment of God’s heavenly plans, not personal agendas.
Prayer expresses dependence, not demands.
Prayer strengthens and delivers from temptation.

Bullies in a “Blame the Victim Society” — The Victim Made Me Do It Mentality

Men find it difficult to accept their own faults.
How do you separate the violent offender from the guilty victim?
On the other hand, we are angry with the victims for they reveal the weakness in mankind.
The lesson, it seems, is that I should throw the first punch.

Hi,

Thank you for reading my articles and stories. My goal is to glorify God, lift up the name of Jesus, and to provide quality-reading material.

Why don’t Christians fundies just admit that they are not mad about President Obama not publically recognizing the National Day of Prayer? They are upset because he is pro secular and refuses to be their mouth piece in the White House. The only way you would have been happy today is if he had lead a strictly Christian prayer and had Christian only speakers at the White House. Why don’t Christian fundies admit that they are upset because their days of tyranny are coming to an end? Note this post is just for the Christian fundamentalist out there. My thanks and admiration goes out to all the open minded Christians.
All right people get your panties out of a bunch. I see nothing wrong w/ a national day of prayer. However Christianity is not the only religion in this country. I think that if it’s going to be recognized by the government then speakers from all faiths should be invited to the White House to Speak and Pray. Not just the Christians. President Obama should not be critized because he chooses to pray in private.
Can any fundies honestly tell me that if President Obama prayed to any deity other than the Christian one they would not be upset? Remember lying is a sin in your religion.
